Privacy Policy

Overview

Village is a postpartum support coordination tool operated by Kinfolk Birth Co., a sole proprietorship based in Virginia. We built Village to make it easier for families to receive help from the people who love them — without having to ask.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We collect only what we need to make the service work, and we never sell your data.

Information We Collect

From families creating a registry:

• Family display name and parent first name
• Phone number (optional — used for SMS notifications)
• Baby's name, birth date, or due date (optional)
• Home address or neighborhood (used so helpers know where to go)
• A personal welcome message (optional)
• The types of support you are requesting
• Your available dates and times
• SMS consent and the timestamp when consent was given

From helpers signing up:

• First and last name
• Phone number (used to send confirmation and reminder texts)
• An optional note to the family
• SMS consent and the timestamp when consent was given

Automatically collected:

• Basic server logs (request timestamps, error logs) for technical operation
• SMS delivery status returned by our messaging provider, Twilio

We do not use cookies for tracking, and we do not use any third-party analytics tools.

How We Use Your Information

• To create and display your family's registry page to helpers
• To send SMS notifications when helpers sign up, and reminders before scheduled visits
• To send Village Alerts when a family has an urgent, time-sensitive need
• To confirm signups and send day-before reminders to helpers
• To maintain records of SMS consent as required by telecom regulations
• To operate, maintain, and improve the Village service

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent your personal data to any third party.

SMS Messaging

By providing your phone number and checking the SMS consent box, you agree to receive text messages from Village / Kinfolk Birth Co. related to your use of the service. This includes signup confirmations, day-before reminders, Village Alerts, and related service messages.

• Message and data rates may apply.
• Message frequency varies based on activity on your registry.
• Reply STOP at any time to opt out of all SMS messages.
• Reply HELP for assistance or contact us at kinfolkbirthco@gmail.com.

We use Twilio to send SMS messages. Twilio's privacy policy is available at twilio.com/legal/privacy.

How We Share Your Information

We share your information only in the following limited ways:

• With helpers you invite: Your family name, welcome message, baby's name, available dates, and support needs are visible to anyone who visits your registry link. Your phone number and address are never shown publicly on your registry page.
• With service providers: We use Supabase (database hosting) and Twilio (SMS delivery) to operate the service. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to protect it.
• If required by law: We may disclose information if required by a valid legal process, court order, or government authority.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your registry is active. Families may contact us to request deletion of their registry and associated data at any time. SMS logs are retained for up to 12 months for compliance and troubleshooting purposes.

Children's Privacy

Village is intended for use by adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your Rights

You may contact us at any time to:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt out of SMS messages by replying STOP to any text we send

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Village after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
