Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Village, a postpartum support coordination service operated by Kinfolk Birth Co., a sole proprietorship based in Virginia (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating a registry or signing up to help a family through Village, you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

What Village Does

Village is a tool that helps postpartum families coordinate practical support from their personal community — friends, family, and neighbors. Families create a registry listing the types of help they need and their available dates. Helpers browse the registry and sign up for specific visits.

Village is a coordination platform only. We do not employ, screen, vet, or supervise any helpers, and we do not provide professional care services of any kind. All arrangements are between the family and their helpers directly.

Who May Use Village

You must be at least 18 years old to use Village. By using the service, you represent that you are 18 or older and that you have the right and authority to enter into these Terms.

Accounts and Registry Pages

Village does not require an account with a username and password. Families receive a unique, shareable registry URL when they complete onboarding. You are responsible for keeping your registry URL private and only sharing it with people you trust.

Anyone with your registry link can view your registry and sign up to help. Do not share your link publicly if you wish to limit who can see your registry.

SMS Messaging

Village uses SMS text messages to notify families when helpers sign up and to send helpers confirmation and reminder messages. By providing your phone number and checking the SMS consent box, you agree to receive these messages.

• Message and data rates may apply.
• Message frequency varies based on activity on your registry.
• Reply STOP at any time to opt out of all SMS messages from Village.
• Reply HELP for assistance or contact us at kinfolkbirthco@gmail.com.

SMS messages are sent through Twilio. Opting out via STOP will stop all Village messages to that number. You may re-consent at any time by contacting us.

Village Alerts

Families may send “Village Alerts” — urgent, time-sensitive need broadcasts — to all helpers who have previously signed up on their registry. Village Alerts are limited to two per day per family. By signing up on a family's registry, helpers consent to receiving Village Alert messages from that family.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Village to:

• Provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information
• Harass, threaten, or harm any other person
• Collect or harvest other users' personal information
• Attempt to access or interfere with our systems, databases, or infrastructure
• Use the service for any commercial solicitation or spam
• Violate any applicable law or regulation

We reserve the right to remove any registry or block any user who violates these Terms or who uses Village in a way that we determine, in our sole discretion, is harmful to others or to the service.

No Professional Services

Village is a scheduling and coordination tool only. Nothing in Village constitutes medical advice, mental health care, professional childcare, or any other licensed professional service. Kinfolk Birth Co. is not responsible for the quality, safety, or outcome of any visit or assistance arranged through Village.

Helpers using Village are acting as volunteers from a family's personal community, not as employees or contractors of Kinfolk Birth Co. We do not screen, background check, or supervise helpers.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Village is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We make no warranties regarding the reliability, accuracy, or completeness of any content on the platform.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kinfolk Birth Co. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of Village, including but not limited to any damages arising from interactions between families and helpers arranged through the service.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, as Village is currently a free service, may be zero).

Privacy

Your use of Village is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Village after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Virginia.
